»Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1« by GURU was originally released in 1993 and is one of the first albums to combine a live jazz band with hip hop and rap.

GURU had a vision and brought together a mixed group of new and old school jazzers; Lonnie Liston Smith, Branford Marsalis, Ronny Jordan (check out the solo on "No Time To Play"), Donald Byrd and Roy Ayers: Singers like Carleen Anderson, N'Dea Davenport (from the BRAND NEW HEAVIES) and the French rapper MC SOLAAR were also there on this classic.

»Jazzmatazz« was a commercial success and had a strong influence on the genre.
