2003 comp weight Model E. This is without question the heaviest, richest comp weight cowhide I’ve experienced on the five CW Vansons I’ve owned—it’s soft the way lead is soft, if that makes sense. This clocks in significantly heavier (by 1.5-2lbs) than either of my mid 90s comp weight Vansons—they’re great leather but by comparison they both feel lightweight and spongy. The hide has a gorgeous graining and lasting sheen to it despite being fully broken in.
The center zip has been replaced by an all-metal two way YKK—zipper tape has no fraying which is almost unheard of on these. The sleeve zip sliders have also been replaced (professionally, by The Bespoke Aviator Jacket Co) with matching pullers as they were worn.
This is the full set (synthetic mouton) in the best comp weight I’ve handled. Broken in but not broken down. If you know your leather you’ll know how special this is!
