The book is in very good condition in a very good unclipped ($5.95 ) dustjacket, with brown cloth boards, gilt spine titles and illustrated endpapers.

Synopsis - From the dustjacket: "With charming text, illustrated with line drawings, Sloane recreates the flavor of the country store in all of its moods and poses. Much more than a mercantile establishment, the country store served as meeting house, newspaper, public forum, and private club. Around the cracker barrel gathered the farmer, blacksmith, carpenter, and barber, where they were free to make sage and sometimes wicked comments and to swap nuggets of homely wisdom." Illustrated throughout with black and white drawings.

Condition Details - The book has a square spine, a tight binding, and no marks, tears, turned down page corners or writing. The book has a very mild warp. The cover has sharp corners, light edgewear to the spine ends, and faded spine titles, but no soil or stains. The rear cover has an unobtrusive 1 1/2 inch scrape to the cloth. The textblock edges are lightly foxed. The dustjacket (in new, protective Brodart) has edgewear with chipping and short tears at the spine ends, a few soil spots, and some wrinkles at the top and bottom of the front panel. The spine and flap folds are sunned/faded. No unpleasant odors.
