Dated 1705-1775 Sampler by Rachel Dean w History, Verse & Alphabet, Silk
- For your consideration is a very RARE sampler, embroidered by two different girls
- As noted by the embroidered text, the work was started in 1705 by Rachel Dean and finished in 1775 by Susannah Taylor, 9 years old, this would be like 4 generations latter, a very intriguing fact
- Besides the alphabet and the numbers, there is a verse and a variety of pictural patterns - birds, flowers, trees, a squirrel...
- The work is very meticulous and well done, the colors are very well preserved considering its age
- All original needlework in a vintage, c. 1980's, frame
- It is embroidered with silk thread over very fine cotton canvas
- It would definitely benefit from a thorough genealogical research
- Measurements: Approx. 19.75" x 9.5" x 1" overall; the sampler only is 18" x 7.25"
- It weighs about 2 lbs. 6 oz.
- Condition: Very Good overall. Please see photos. Light to moderate discoloration, commensurate with age. Well presented, under glass, ready for display
