DAVID BOWIE, the musically and of course visually most versatile rock and pop musician of all time, returned to old virtues with this 1993 album after his foray into brutal rock ("Tin Machine" I & II): He brought ex-Chic man Nile Rodgers back on board as producer - he had produced DAVID BOWIE's mega album "Let's Dance".

For the first time in over 20 years he played with his old Spiders From Mars buddy Mick Ronson. He produced a lot of sophisticated soul, showed himself to be willing to experiment (including in a jazz-infected track with his namesake from avant-garde jazz, Lester Bowie), and he once again covered songs that were supposed to sound like they were recorded in the 70's, including a piece by Morrissey originally produced by Ronson in the Ziggy style or a number by the Walker Brothers in which DAVID BOWIE obviously came out as a fan of Scott Walker.
