The brilliant conclusion to the Led Zeppelin reissues
In composition theory, a coda - from the Italian for train, tail - describes the final part of a work in which the leading themes are summarized. JIMMY Page fittingly titled Led Zeppelin's final studio album, two years after the death of drummer John Bonham and the band's official breakup, "Coda." The eight tracks on the album were previously unreleased songs, recorded between 1970 and 1978.
The circumstances under which John Bonham died on the 25th His death in September 1980 caused quite a stir. In a bed at JIMMY Page's home in Windsor, the drummer choked to death on his own vomit while sleeping. Excessive alcohol consumption was always given as an explanation for this. The remaining members of Led Zeppelin quickly decided to break up the band. In a press statement they declared it impossible to continue without Bonham.
Bootlegs with unreleased material soon began circulating among fans who didn't want to forget Led Zeppelin. Rumor has it that the band had to release another album to fulfill his contracts. There were a few more pieces from the recordings of “In Through The Out Door”. And JIMMY Page went into the archive for the first time to look at the unreleased recordings and use them to fill an album.

»Coda« is the only one of the Led Zeppelin Deluxe Editions to be released with two companion discs with a total of 15 songs recorded between 1968 and 1974. The oldest song in the collection, the feverish blues jam “Sugar Mama,” was recorded in 1968 at Olympic Studios during the sessions for their debut album. The song was finished, but had never been released yet. “Baby Come On Home” also comes from the same session. The previously unreleased track »St. "Tristan's Sword" is a rollicking instrumental recorded during the Led Zeppelin III sessions in 1970.
JIMMY Page and Robert Plant embarked on a legendary journey to India in 1972 to perform with the Bombay Orchestra. The recordings from this session are now being released for the first time. Other highlights include an early version of “When The Levee Breaks” entitled “If It Keeps On Raining” and the instrumental mix of “Poor Tom” from 1970. From the Physical Graffiti sessions there is a rough mix of “The Wanton Song” and another alternative version of “In The Light”.
The 2015 reissue of “Coda” completes the cycle of Led Zeppelin new editions. JIMMY Page announced that there was now nothing left in the archives to publish. The entire series honors the legacy of the hard rock pioneers in the best possible way. “Coda” is the final point without which the collection is not complete.
