Removed from my 1988 Jeep Wrangler YJ.  A restoration shop sandblasted it and refinished it with high heat automotive quality paint.  This is a 35+ year old factory OEM part that was professionally refinished but expect a ding or metal imprecations but obviously NO RUST, no peeling.  Not a scratch.  There is a hole in lid we planned to seal with body sealant.

Please do your research I have been informed that the YJ air filter housing fits later years Cj's as well.
