Sigma Nu at Kansas University 1884–1956 – Allen Press – Nu Chapter History Fraternity Heritage with EXTRAs
A richly detailed historical record of the Nu Chapter of Sigma Nu at the University of Kansas, this beautifully printed Allen Press volume preserves more than seven decades of fraternity heritage—its founding in 1884, its early members, and the evolution of the chapter through 1956. Compiled by Grant W. Harrington, Burton P. Sears, Solon W. Smith, and the History Committee, the book captures the spirit of KU student life with archival photographs, original documents, rosters, and personal recollections.
A particularly charming detail is the 1896 photograph captioned “Just in from Clay Center for the start of a new school year,” showing Cecil Wickstrum barefoot atop trunks in a Studebaker wagon pulled by a horse—a vivid reminder of how Kansas students once arrived for their education. With modern interest in Midwestern history, university heritage, and vintage Greek-life ephemera, this volume offers collectors a warm, highly readable slice of KU’s past.
Also included are two loose archival inserts: a 1956 “Tribute to Mother Young” printed on glossy yearbook stock and preserved on the page honoring the second housemother. A typed membership list with addresses and page references—likely used as an internal directory for alumni is also included. These ephemeral pieces add meaningful provenance.
Very Good condition. The quarter buckram boards remain clean, square, and well-preserved, protected by the original vinyl dust-jacket sleeve showing mild age toning. Corners are sharp, binding is tight, and pages are clean and unmarked, carefully handled over time. Glossy yearbook-style paper retains its brightness, and all photographs reproduce clearly. Loose inserts are present and in good condition. A beautifully preserved Allen Press fraternity history.
