"The Lost Daughter (The Lost Daughter)" is a psychological drama from 2021, which was highly praised by the criticism, which Maggie Gyllenhaal wrote and staged in her directorial debut based on the novel of the same name by Elena Ferrante from 2006.
Olivia Colman, Dakota Johnson, Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal, Dagmara Domińczyk, Jack Farthing, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Peter Sarsgaard and Ed Harris play in the main roles. Colman also acts as the executive producer of the film. The film is about Leda (Colman), who watches a young mother and daughter on the beach during a vacation by the sea and falls in love with her. When a small, apparently meaningless event occurs, Leda is overwhelmed by memories of the difficult, unconventional decisions she has made as a mother and their consequences for herself and her family. The apparently cheerful story about the pleasant rediscovery of a woman soon becomes the history of a violent confrontation with an unpleasant past.
"The Lost Daughter" was at the 78th International Film Festival of Venice premiered, where Gyllenhaal won the Golden Osella Award for the best script. At the world premiere on the opening evening, the film was given a four -minute standing ovation by the visitors of the Venice Film Festival. The film also received three nominations at the 94. Academy Awards for the best actress (Colman), the best supporting actress (Buckley) and the best adapted script.
The film music was composed by Dickon Hinnchliffe, founding member of the Tindersticks. Dickon's unique composition and arrangement style developed from his classic violin studies and the writing and recording of songs in bands.
"The Lost Daughter" is available in a limited "Peal It Like a Snake, Don't Let It Break" edition of 750 individually numbered specimens on Orange Marbled Vinyl. The LP is provided with an alternative artwork designed by Yelena Yemchuk, a professional Ukrainian photographer, painter and film director, who became known primarily through her work with the smashing pumpkins. The vinyl packaging contains a side dish with images and linen notes by Maggie Gyllenhaal and Dickon Hinschliffe.
