'Flora' is a beautiful F H Ayres dappled rocking horse on a safety stand, c1920.
Flora is a fine example of an F H Ayres, made in the 1920’s in London. She was originally owned by the Bavington family of Salisbury, and was restored in 2023 by The Rocking Horse Works of Market Drayton to a very high standard.
She stands an impressive 48 inches tall on one of the best stands that F H Ayres made, with fluted runners and heavy crosspieces. She has a beautiful real horsehair mane and tail, glass eyes and a very friendly face, with a turn to her head to her right, and a tongue which again is only on the finest horses. She has adjustable stirrup leathers and new fixed saddlery including a pommel which can be changed from side to side and was originally fitted to teach young ladies to ride. There are some lovely details to her as shown in the photographs. She is very solid and the overall horse and stand are a heavy weight, making her suitable for riding by all children.
She was last sold for £7500 in 2023, so is great value now from us.
Her measurements are:
Height 125 cm
Width 46 cm
Length 152 cm
