Striking original mixed media work on toned paper by Scottish artist Kenneth J. McQueenie, dated 1988 and signed in pencil lower right.
The piece shows a standing male figure rendered in bold chiaroscuro — typical of McQueenie’s expressive figurative studies from the late 1980s.
Presented in its original 1980s oak frame (approx. 26×20cm framed, image 14×9cm) with a soft blue mount.
Verso inscribed “For Dorothy – Happy Birthday 1988, Love Kenneth”, confirming provenance.
From the artist’s own family circle, inherited by me from my mother, who was the original recipient.
Condition: very good vintage condition, minor age toning.
A beautiful example of McQueenie’s draughtsmanship and sensitivity to the human form — ideal for collectors of Scottish modern figurative art or as an affordable entry into his original work.
Scottish artist Kenneth J. McQueenie (BA Hons Graphic Design) works from his Driftwood Studio in the grounds of Traquair House in the Scottish Borders. His expressive figurative mixed-media drawings from the 1980s combine strong line with emotional subtlety. The pieces offered here — a signed 1988 figure study and an earlier “Solitude” portrait – come direct from the artist’s circle (gifted to the family) and now inherited, offering a rare opportunity to acquire original work with full provenance.
