Bio of Caren Threlfall  aka C. Turelfall

Education & Early Career

Caren studied Fashion Design at the University of Salford, after which she worked designing ladies’ and children’s wear for well-known high-street stores. Following a break to raise a family, she rediscovered her passion for art and transitioned into the textile arts.

Artistic Style & Mediums

Her current work revolves around textural “felt paintings”, where she uses wool and silk fibers in a painterly fashion—like painting with threads. She layers the fibers, felts them with warmth and friction to knot together, then often adds free-machine embroidery for details and definition. Her subjects span landscapes, seascapes, floral motifs, and natural scenes, typically with vibrant, moody color palettes inspired by her surroundings.  In addition to felt, Caren also works in batik, silk painting, hand-made silk paper, and devoré techniques.
