Dr. John's Spin Factory brings you music of which he is very fond. In case you're asking yourself, will the Spin Factory be offering up much in the way of classical music on vinyl? Oh fear not...I have 1000s of flat, black, and circular hunks of plastic on which have been pressed some very fine pieces of music generally described as 'classical' in genre. Here's somthing to understand. I, Dr. John, have ridiculously diverse musical tastes. My faves? In response to such a question, in one sentence, I will often string together the names Mozart, Bartok, Ultravivid Scene, Miles Davis, Grateful Dead, Kate Bush, Leonard Cohen, Beethoven, Lush, Dvorak, Donald Byrd, XTC, Duke Ellington, Ry Cooder, Joni Mitchell, Charles Mingus, Richard Thompson, Talk Talk, Los Lobos, Johann Sebastian Bach, John Coltrane, Beatles...you get the idea. You want to know what happened? I was cursed! Literally. Not by some soothsayer or witchcraft, rather by my own flesh and blood! In 1964 when I was 11 years old dear grandfather (who had been a Vaudeville performer), gave me a big stack of classical music records with one, simple instruction. "Do not dismiss or reject any piece of music on any of these albums until you have listened to that piece at least three times." Well, there it was. The curse! I following my dear grandpa's instructions faithfully. And!? The curse changed my life! It led to my finding so very many different types of music so desirable and satisfying that I wanted to have have them, to own them! As the decades passed, I ended up with thousands of records. (On three occasions I did a stint as a disk jockey in college; one commercial radio station sale netted me at least 3000 LPs.) And, truly, I would have it no other way. I am SO very thankful for my grandfather's curse. Of course, as we all know (though may not wish to accept), you can't take it with you. Hence, not so long ago, I created Dr. John's Spin Factory...with the grand goal that most, and ultimately all, of my beloved, round, flat, black, and circular aural gifts will find good homes...listeners who will love them as I have. If you wanted to know just one thing about for the album in question and up for sale, Jasha Heifetz, the man playing the violin, began practicing on the order of 6 hours per day when he was...age 6. (His mother wanted him to be great!) To put it simply, there never was, and may never be, anyone who plays as astoundingly well as Mr. Heifetz. Want to find out for yourself? You know what to do. If not, let me help! Buy this brand new record, which is a "Limited Edition" (there were 1000 of these 200g pressings made by Analogue Productions) and LISTEN to it at least 3 times! There, I've passed on the 'curse!' Good luck, and thanks for listening...Dr. John
