As a counterpart to the British de Havilland DH.98 "Mosquito", the German aviation manufacturer Focke Wulf, under the direction of Kurt Tank, designed the Ta 154, which was also christened "Mosquito". On July 1, 1943, the maiden flight of the mostly wooden construction took place. The armament should be up to MK 108 in the fuselage. Mostly, however, it came to four MK 108 in the bow for weight reasons. Due to their high speed, defensive armament should be avoided.
With the versions C-1 and C-2, consideration was given to installing an on-board cannon BK5 in the fuselage. Version C-1 should carry a 5cm cannon on the right side of the fuselage and two MK 108 cannons on the left side. Version C-2 even had a 5cm cannon on each side. Since the ammunition took up a considerable amount of space, the operator's work station had to be dispensed with for each design, which is why these two versions could only be designed as single-seaters. However, there have been no tests with this armament.
Since the performance of the Ta 154 did not meet the requirements of the group and there were also considerable problems with the chassis and the gluing of the individual components, the production of this machine was completely discontinued in favor of the Dornier Do 335.
