The official German name “Geheime Staatspolizei.” In English the “Secret State Police. Equally feared and loathed, the German Gestapo brought dread across many regions and countries from when the organisation was established in 1933 by Hermann Goring, to when it was disbanded in May 1945, yet its reputation still echoes today and is a byword for evil and cruelty.

Arnold Ernst Toht was a cold-blooded and ruthless Gestapo Sturmbannführer who was part of the Nazi party’s attempt to uncover the Ark of the Covenant in Tanis, Egypt in 1936. Toht was known as the perfect man for interrogation and getting information, he was extreme and effective in his job.
