An Antique Nucut Pressed Glass Bowl with Sawtooth Edge.
Nucut is a line of pressed glass produced by the Imperial Glass Company of Bellaire, Ohio, starting in 1911 or 1914. The Nucut line was designed to mimic the appearance of more expensive hand-cut lead crystal glassware popular during the American Brilliant Period. These pieces often feature deep geometric designs, such as hobstars and crosshatching, and a distinctive sawtooth rim.
The name "Nucut" was used to differentiate it from true cut glass. While it has sharp points and edges that feel like cut glass, Nucut is technically a type of Early American Pressed Glass (EAPG). This piece from the Nucut line can be identified by a "NUCUT" signature marked in the center of the bowl. The use of the Nucut mark was discontinued in 1932.
This bowl is a classic example of this style, featuring a sawtooth rim and a pattern that includes hobstars.
Beautiful piece with amazing shimmer and reflection! There is a manufacturer flaw in the base and a couple of the teeth have been clipped. Please see pictures. These flaws do not detract from the appearance of the piece. Its shine and flattering cuts will add to any collection!
