Marchant (1929-2000) was born in Cape Town, South Africa. He came to London in 1950, where he specialized in mezzotint and his art was featured in more than 100 exhibitions during his lifetime. 

His work is still being displayed posthumously, notably "Bowl of Fruit" (same work) in the Arts Council Collection.
