"Peter and the Wolf" from 1978 is an album of classical music, on which Bowie lends his voice as a narrator of the 1936 composition by Sergei Prokofiev. The music comes from the Philadelphia Orchestra under the leadership of Eugene Ormandy. At the time, the album reached 136th place on the US pop album charts.
The AS side contains the story of Bowie, while Orchestra and the orchestra on the B side perform the "Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" by Benjamin Britten. Critics praised the album. Bowie tells the story with its characteristic eloquence and in his style and at the beginning gives information for children how music refers to the characters of history.
