***********The manual wind movement runs about a minute fast by the end of its approximate 38 hour power reserve period. The alarm functions and emits an audible several second buzz. When the alarm is triggered a gentle tap on the bottom crown helps the sound along. Given that the movement has likely never been serviced and the crystal is cracked a complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended.***********

This seldom seen vintage 1962 Bulova alarm came from the estate of its original owner.  The 'SWISS' only signed dial has aged uniquely.  The lume on the dial and hands, which appears to remain fully intact, no longer emits a glow after being exposed to bright light.  As clearly seen in the pictures the lume shows discoloration and the metal hands show oxidation.  The all stainless steel case shows honest wear.  The stampings on the outside of the case back have for the most part been worn down over time and appear faint.  The outer edge reads "BULOVA WATCH CO.   STAINLESS STEEL  -  ANTI-MAGNETIC  -  WATERPROOF  -  SHOCK RESISTANT."  The center of the case back reads "450247" followed by "M2."  The crystal needs to be replaced as it's cracked.

While I normally show pictures of the movements of watches I put up for sale the case back on this watch does not easily fall out after removing the screwdown case back ring.  The manual wind movement runs strong, albeit a bit fast, and the alarm functions.  The alarm works by rotating the bottom crown clockwise while in the first position which moves the alarm hand counterclockwise so it can be set to the desired time.  When set pull the crown out to activate the alarm.  The alarm emits an audible sound that tends to last about 10 seconds (duration varies based on how much power reserve is left).  I've noticed that when the alarm is initially triggered the sound is helped along by gently giving the bottom crown a tap.  When the alarm is activated the time cannot be set (top crown won't do anything).  To set the time the bottom crown needs to be pushed in flush to the mid-case.  After recently winding the top crown 26 full revolutions the movement gained about a minute by the end of its approximate 38 hour power reserve period.  The top crown winds smoothly.  My understanding is that the movement has likely never been serviced so a complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended.

This watch measures approximately 34 mm excluding the crown, approximately 35.5 mm including the crowns and approximately 18 mm between the lugs.  Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the fixed bezel, is approximately 8 mm.  Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 9.5 mm.  The lug to lug distance measures approximately 43 mm.

A complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended.  As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch.  Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time.  Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility.

Please thoroughly read this entire listing and kindly ask any and all questions you may have prior to buying as this sale is final and no refunds of any kind will be given.  And please study the 24 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch.
