***********Although the movement keeps accurate time over an approximate 30 hour power reserve period and the red date wheel rolls over as it should a complete overhaul is likely long overdue and recommended given the movement's unknown service history. The non-screwdown crown is a replacement.***********
This seldom seen vintage 1960's Spera Aqua diver has a poor condition tropical dial that has aged naturally to a milk chocolate brown hue. The lume on the dial and hands no longer glows after being exposed to bright light. As most clearly seen in picture 12 some lume is missing from the hour hand and the metal hands show oxidation. The black countdown bezel, which rotates bidirectionally a bit too freely, shows considerable wear. The all stainless steel lugholes case shows honest wear with no visible signs of oxidation. The outside of the case back is stamped "WATERPROOF TO 20 ATMOSPHERS" followed by "ALL STEEL,""INCABLOC,""SWISS MADE" and "1113713 EAC." The inside of the case back is stamped "+ BREVET" followed by "238872,""BREV.DEM,""+,""SPERA S.A." and "SWISS." The crystal shows light scratching.
The 25 jewels unadjusted Swiss "SPERA WATCH Co" stamped Felsa 4007N automatic movement with semi-quickset date function keeps accurate time and the red date wheel rolls over at 12 am. The semi-quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 21 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the sharply threaded non-screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement had an approximate 30 hour power reserve period. The crown, which is a replacement, winds smoothly. Given the movement's unknown service history a complete overhaul is likely long overdue and recommended.
This watch measures approximately 38 mm excluding the crown, approximately 41 mm including the crown and approximately 20 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 10 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 11 mm. The lug to lug distance measures approximately 48 mm.
Given the movement's unknown service history a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility.
