Charles Grigg Tate was an artist, teacher and historian who was born in Wales but spent much of his life in Maldon, Essex. After serving in the Navy in WW2 he settled in Maldon becoming an art teacher at the local secondary school. He painted in oils and watercolours and many of his works are architectural landscapes and coastal views in the local area.
He also wrote and illustrated several books including 'The Changed Face of Maldon and Heybridge' , 'The Parish Churches of South East Essex and a semi autobiography titled 'The Reluctant Sailor'.
He was a founder member of Maldon Art Society which still holds a number of his works in their collection, as does Maldon Museum and the Rochester Bridge Trust.
