Bilingual text in English and Czech. Obscure republication of travel journal entries and drawings by early 20th-century Czech Symbolist artist and Sursum member Josef Vachal. In August of 1921 Vachal and the Czech graphic artist Anna Mackova journeyed through the Bohemian Moravian Highlands, with a stop to see Czech graphic artist Karel Nemec. Vachal then stayed on with a friend to help decorate his living quarters, during which time he devised and assembled a collection of drawings, which he entitled a "Cestopisak" ("travelogue"). Finely printed and designed book, with over 70 full-page plates of drawings reproduced in color, along with notes, entries, and period photos. Wonderful book on the endlessly fascinating Vachal.
