This is a beautiful blue and grey Finnish Arabia Kalevala annual wall plate from 1988. This plate depicts Louhi in the farmyard.
Each plate in the series has its story written in English, Swedish and Finnish on the back. Arabia Finland Annual Wall Plates from the Kalevala Series began in 1976 and ended in 1999. The plates were designed by Raija Uosikkinen (1923–2004) who was one of the prominent decorators of Finnish 20th-century design. During her four decades at the Arabia factory, she crafted many legendary decors for tableware and wall plaques.
The Kalevala is a 19th century poem by Elias Lönnrot from Finnish folklore and mythology, telling the story of the Creation of the Earth.
Measures approximately 20 cm (7.75 in) in width.
