It has three coats of polyurethane and has been sanded between coats. It has a lovely hand-rubbed for the final finish.  Not to be confused with imported beach wood or lesser quality lumber from China, Philippines or Vietnam. A wood species that you are familiar with. This well-balanced Blotter is handmade from SOLID OAK design based on ink blotters from the late 1800s and early 1900s. The knob or handle unscrews, allowing you to remove the top plate and replace your used blotting paper with a new one. Two pieces of blotting paper are included (see the photo of the blotter taken apart). They are meant to be used on BOTH sides of the paper (that is four sides of paper). That will last you YEARS.
