DESCRIPTION:
This is a nice old framed original artist signed hand-painted Interior scene portrait oil painting of three small children and their mother. The painting depicts a family gathered around a table where the children are eating fruit and the mother is knitting. The children in the painting look to be European, probably of German or Dutch descent. The painting is painted on canvas. The painting is framed in a beautiful gold gilt or painted wood and gesso picture frame. The painting is signed by the artist, N Lenz, on the front of the painting in the bottom left-hand corner (see photos). The artist is a well known listed artist named Nicholas Lenz. The painting is old, dating to be 75 +/- years old. The item is from an estate liquidation (see photos). The framed oil painting measures in total about 26.5 inches high, and it is about 33.5 inches wide from side to side. The painting portion without the frame measures about 23 inches high, and it is about 30 inches wide. The painting is sold as-is in as-found estate condition. The picture frame has some scuffs, scratches, finish losses, and some wear (see photos). The painting has areas with paint losses, some crazing, and some other signs of wear (see photos and/or written description for the condition of this item). This is a nice old framed original art oil painting interior scene and portrait of a mother and three children, for you to restore and add to your collection.

Here is some information about this artist:
Nicholas Lenz was born near Port Washington, WI, in 1890. He attended Port Washington High School and later received art training from the School of Applied Art in Battle Creek, Michigan. Moving to Milwaukee, he continued working as a painter and studied under Friedrich Wilhem Heine and Julius Segall. During World War I, he served in France and briefly attended an art school in Le Mans. From 1919 to 1961, Lenz owned Lenz Art Studio at 4003 W. North Ave. in Milwaukee, where he worked as a painter and art dealer. He is known for his landscapes, portraits, and genre scenes, which have been sold throughout Wisconsin. In addition, he has done extensive work as a pen and ink illustrator. Today, his son, Tom Lenz, manages Lenz Gallery on West Pittsburgh Street in Milwaukee. Nicholas Lenz, also known as Nick or Nic, is listed in Wright’s Milwaukee City Directory 1882-1952 as a professional studio artist and also in the German-American Artists in Early Milwaukee: A Biographical Dictionary by Peter C. Merril. Lenz’s portrait of Captain James Duane, which was painted while in the Army, is exhibited at the Historical Society of Boston, Massachusetts.
