HOUSE RULES by Heather Lewis & Allan Gurganus. Nan A. Talese, NY, 1994. NEAR FINE IN VERY GOOD++ JACKET. Cloth. 1st Edition. SIGNED AND INSCRIBED AND DATED. A nearly perfect copy, but clear liquid (obviously water) has touched the base of the book, creating a wiggle effect that affects the bottom two inches of the jacket and the book. It is hardly noticeable but you can see it if you look carefully and/or touch the jacket. The book's cloth wraps are brown and this wetting incident has caused the interior of the jacket to brown stain - not the outside, there is no stain to the outside of the jacket. It's a very good looking book, despite this issue and it very very rare to find a signed copy since her death by her own hand in 2002. Gurganus was her teacher at Sarah Lawrence College and has written the afterword. The book is indescribable in its subject matter, compelling and impossible to put down, as well as highly troubling, as was her life. You are not likely to find a signed copy at this price, which would be considerably higher if not for the water.
