Item Description:

Wonderful little tree with a lid in enamelled vitrified ceramic, entirely modeled on a lathe and decorated by hand with papyrus plants on the belly and geometric decorations on the mouth and on the base, signed under the base "GMS" and attributable in our opinion to the manufacture of Mastro Giorgio di Gubbio, who signed with the same letters although usually with slightly different characters and arrangement. Vase datable to the first decades of the 20th century, excellent patina covering the object, perfectly in line with our dating.

Just below this description, we have listed the only auction result found for this extremely limited-production manufacturer: a large ceramic plate estimated, back in 2007, at €900-1,000, an excellent price for an auction of that period. This serves to give an idea of the value of ceramics made by the workshop of Mastro Giorgio di Gubbio.

Information on the artist and/or manufacturer:

Founded in 1932 by the elementary school teacher Fernando Pascucci, descendant of an ancient family of majolica makers from Gualdo, the small factory "Mastro Giorgio da Gubbio" specializes in ceramics with third-fire decoration. The production consists mainly of traditional-style majolica and copies of the ancient. Around the mid-1930s, the ceramist and painter Fulvio Fabbri and Delio Donnini were called to collaborate with the factory. Double box with a lot of bubble wrap around the object and a lot of soft material in the large cavities on all sides between the two boxes.
