Here we have one vintage Girl Scout Minstrel badge. This badge design showing a lute was available from 1929 to 1980. This particular version with a "West Coast Cut" (or WCC) was produced for only one year, 1954-1955.

Why is this version so rare?  These badges were a prototype that were issued only on the West Coast of the United States: California, Oregon and Washington state.  Some also seem to have made their way inland to Idaho, Nevada and Colorado.

I have included a photo showing the difference between WCC badges and the eras immediately before and after.  BMG (Bright Medium Green) badges, 1948-1955, had excess fabric around the edges that had to be sewn under.  "Merrow" badges saw the end of this excess fabric and were much easier to be sewn onto uniforms.  WCC was an experimentation before the first official series of Merrow badges. *BEWARE mistaking trimmed BMG badges as WCC! West Coast will ALWAYS have dark green thread with Merrow badges, NOT light green!  And they are always thick, interlocking DOUBLE rows.

About Item Condition
Condition is very important to collectors! 99% of the items I list are in excellent used to mint unused condition.  If they are not, I will better explain their condition in the first paragraph of the listing. You might not receive the exact item pictured, but you will receive one of comparable quality.

Here is a general breakdown of my condition definitions:

Mint = Looks perfect, no visible flaws
Excellent = Nearly perfect.  May have one or two pinholes, scratches or other minor imperfections
Very Good = Has several noticeable imperfections, but still looks nice overall.
Good/Average = Has many sewing/pin holes, stains, scratches, etc.  Often still usable, but not always very "pretty"
Poor  = Very obviously damaged, stained, ripped, etc.  Only recommended for very high dollar and/or extremely rare items.  Good "hole fillers" in collections
