LaPine Scientific Company Catalog C | laboratory supplies, equipment and instruments

According to the publisher, Edition C "has been compiled to serve as a basic reference book of the most modern laboratory supplies and equipment available." This hard-to-find, hardcover book includes hundreds of detailed descriptions and illustrations of everything from basic lab glassware and chemicals to complex equipment like Spectrophotometers and lab-designed furniture. This catalog is appears to be from the early 1960s though could predate that.

Asbestos References: Notable are the number of asbestos-containing products offered prior to general knowledge of the material's danger. The index specifically lists asbestos boards, cement, center wire gauze squares, cloth, cord, finger cots, gloves, mats, mittens, pads, paper, sheet, slate and tape. And it was likely present in many others given the material's widespread use in heaters, furniture, cords, shielding, and other applications.

Many companies distributing or manufacturing products with asbestos during that period faced extensive litigation over mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases, though it's unclear if LaPine (La Pine) was one of them. While the company started in 1937 and became a major manufacturer of scientific equipment by the 1960s, I was unable to determine what became of it.

Condition: Book is in very good used condition with a solid cover and binding that show no significant damage. The cover shows browning around the edges, some minor scuffs, and dirt. The inside also shows browning around the page edges, though is otherwise clean with no ink, tears, or stains found. This may have a mildew smell common to old books, particularly noticeable when you open the mailing box.
