Curtin Scientific Apparatus and Chemicals Catalog No. 45 for Industrial, Educational, Clinical, and Public Service Laboratories

This 1,000+ page hardcover served as W. H. Curtin & Company's product catalog, featuring hundreds of detailed descriptions and illustrations of everything from basic lab glassware and chemicals to complex equipment like Spectrophotometers and lab-designed furniture.

Asbestos References: Notable are the number of asbestos-containing products offered prior to general knowledge of the material's danger. The index specifically lists asbestos boards, cement, cords, finger cats, gloves, mittens, pads, paper, and tape. And it was likely present in many others giving the material's widespread use in heaters, furniture, cords, shielding, and other applications.

Many companies distributing or manufacturing products with asbestos during that period faced extensive litigation over mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases, though it's unclear if Curtin was one of them. After becoming Curtin Matheson Scientific, Inc., the company went through several acquisitions at one points owned by Fisher Scientific and eventually becoming part of VWR International and then Avantor in 2017. (Information believed reliable though not guaranteed.)

Condition: Book is in excellent used condition with a solid, bright cover and binding. The cover shows some dirt, minor scuffs, and some areas of fading. Inside is clean with no ink, stains, or significant browning. This may have a mildew smell common to old books, particularly noticeable when you open the mailing box.
