1. What is the dipstick?
Engine oil is an indispensable element in the operation of the engine. Whether the engine oil is added too much or too little, it will affect our normal driving.
The dipstick is an important tool for measuring the oil level.
2. Where is the dipstick? How to insert it when using it?
The oil dipstick is usually next to the engine, some on the top, and some on the side.
The dipstick has a very obvious feature, that is, there is a hand pull ring, so it is easy to identify.
When using it, take a towel (soft paper), pull out the dipstick, wipe it with a towel (soft paper), and then reinsert it into the engine's dipstick slot to the bottom.
3. When to check?
Turn off the engine and wait for about 5-10 minutes to let the oil flow back to the oil pan and then check.
If you need to check it frequently, you can check it in the morning before starting the vehicle. At this time, the oil level is also accurate.
Prerequisites for inspection
Before inspection, the vehicle must be in a horizontal position, turn off the engine, and wait for more than an hour to allow the oil attached to the surface of the parts in the engine to flow back to the oil pan.
Check with a cold car or a hot car
When the car is cold, the oil is basically gathered in the oil pan;
When the car is hot, the oil flowing between the parts has not yet flowed back to the oil pan.
But the difference in oil level between the two is not big, generally only two or three millimeters, and the corresponding oil volume is only a few hundred milliliters, which has little effect on the engine.
Generally speaking, when the engine oil level is more than 3/4 between the upper and lower engraved lines when the car is cold, and more than 1/2 between the upper and lower engraved lines when the car is hot, the oil volume is sufficient.
4. How to read the oil dipstick?
Usually, when we look at the oil dipstick, we need to pull out the oil dipstick first, then wipe off the remaining oil on the dipstick with a rag, and then insert it into the oil pan.
It should be noted that the oil dipstick must be inserted to the bottom, not just halfway. Pull out the oil dipstick a second time to see if the measured position is between the two scales.
