This coloured stipple engraving depicts a family in a luxurious room looking over a dockyard. The imagery implies that the businessmen who invested in early industry will reap the rewards of their ingenuity through wealth and success. It is important to note the wealth of this family has a history routed in enslaved labour and empire, as seen by the young black servant that is serving them fruit. Consequently there is not only a connection between innovative business deals and success but also, privilege and power.
