Norway Solid Silver Tea Caddy Engraved Pine cones Hallmarked AS Arnholdt Mouritzen Svabe working in Tonsberg in 1729 – 1768, with Cameo Circle with Light Pin-Prick Script Monogram
Presented is a high finish beautiful
Tea Caddy with an oval slip on lid with a finial tip and engraved pine leaf and
cone decoration surrounding a circle cameo with no engraved monogram or
dedication on both sides and a light pin-prick Script R monogram in one of the cameos
on the side. This great piece is hallmarked with two AS marks for Norway solid
silver by Arnholdt
Mouritzen Svabe working in Tonsberg in 1729 – 1768. I have posted a picture of
my research on these marks in the photos above. Old silverware of Norway
hallmarks were usually a guarantee minimum fineness of .830 fine silver. American standard sterling silver is 925,
so there may be slightly less silver in this alloy.
It has a faint R monogram an only a some dings and some fine scratches from gentle use and care in the high finish. It
is an excellent piece for the collector of fine antique silver.
