Introduction

An extensometer is a critical component used in tensile testing machines to measure the deformation or elongation of a material specimen during a tensile test. Tensile testing is a common mechanical test used to determine the mechanical properties of materials, including tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation.

During a tensile test, a sample is subjected to an axial pulling force (tensile force) in a controlled manner until it breaks. While the force is applied, the extensometer measures the changes in the specimen's length. It accurately records the extension or deformation of the material under the applied load.
