We offer a folk art painting by the Texas artist Rose M. Shefuo depicting a vibrant bouquet of flowers in a blue vase. The undated painting is signed by the artist on the lower right corner.

The painting on stretched linen canvas measures 17 3/8" in height and 14" in width.

The unframed painting is presented in very good vintage condition.


Col. Rose M. Shefuo (1919-2022)

Rose M. Shefuo, 102 years young, was a pioneer for women in the United States military and is part of the Military Women's Memorial in Washington DC.

On March 13, 1945, she was among the first to join the Army Air Core and later moved to the Air Force in 1947. She served as a nurse in World War II, including the historic Berlin Airlift. She served a stateside tour during the Korean War before taking on a hospital command at Clark Air Base during the Viet Nam War.

Her career progressed from Nurse General Duty, to Director of Nurses, and to Command of Nurses. Attaining the rank of Lt. Col. in 1966, Rose M. Shefuo was one of the first to be promoted to full colonel when President Johnson signed an act in 1967 opening higher military ranks to women.

After her retirement in 1973, Rose M. Shefuo settled in Corpus Christi, Texas where she began a new career in real estate and became a noted artist.
