So, having become a Houstonian, I'd be remiss if I didn't list any tees from a hometown band, and so here we have a pretty dope one. Original vintage DRI tee featuring the "Skanker Man" logo, designed by (original drummer) Eric Brecht as part of an assignment for a college art course. Within months of designing the logo, the band played their first gig at Joe Star's OMNI here in Houston. Then came the first recording, Dirty Rotten EP (the original pressing of which consisted of a mere 1000 copies, and hence whomever has one of those today owns a very rare, sought-after collectable). It was enough to kick start their career, upon which they moved to San Francisco where they joined the DKs and MDC on the "Rock Against Reagan" tour, cementing their status as a deeply-committed punk band: living in their van, eating out of soup kitchens--whatever it took just to get to the next gig. So, what we have here is not only a rare gem, but because it doesn't promote a particular album or tour, it's a "total fan" tee, with a logo only slightly less recognizable than that of the DKs (Winston Smith) or Circle Jerks (Shawn Kerri). The tee itself is very well preserved, with minimal mileage, including some light staining (including some slight "bleed-through" of the silk screen on the back, pictured), and one barely-noticeable pinhole on the right shoulder. Other than that, it's both soft and sturdy, but definitely check the sizing. It's pretty small, perhaps best suited for a "skater chick," but not necessarily (I can still rock it, though it is noticeably tight on me). A classic tee from a dirty rotten band. Imbecilically dope.
