BDV Cigarette Silk of General Sir A. (Archibald) Murray

B.D.V. was a brand of cigarette manufactured by Godfrey Phillips Limited, introduced before the Great War, and withdrawn 1948.

Sir Archibald James Murray Born 23 April 1860 in Kingsclere, Great Britain

Died 21 January 1945 in Reigate, Great Britain

He was Chief of the Imperial General Staff from September 1915 to December 1915 and Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force from March 1916 to June 1917

The silk measures 4 ½” by 6 ½”. Some small fraying around the outer edges. It looks to have been pasted in a photo album using corner mount tabs, which outlines can still be seen on the silk. This silk is most likely from WWI.

M
y store items are from auctions, garage sales and/or estate sales, generally pre-owned and sold as is. I rarely clean, repair or retouch anything I have in my store though I will always advise when I do so.  Descriptions are as accurate as I can make them, and measurements are approximate. Please refer to photos for further information.
