This earthenware dessert dish was made by Spode circa 1825 , and bears the factory marks on the base .
It is from the Bill Dick collection and bears his label on the base .
It was made to commemorated the 150th anniversary of the poet Samuel Butler .
It is decorated with his portrait in the centre and has a flowers of the union border and enriched with gilding .
It measures 11 1/4" x 8" in diameter .
It is in good condition with no chips or cracks and no glaze crazing . 
There are some speckles of kiln dust from when it was made and some wear to the gilding around the edge .
