Stoneware plate entirely modeled by hand and decorated with enamels with archaic rural figures in primitivist style, enameled in blue and vitrified while the rest of the plate is enameled in brown and treated with acid with a matte finish. The plate is signed behind the base with an hollow Ronchi signature, made by Cesare Ronchi, an important Italian ceramist, sculptor and engraver, furthermore there are two numbers on the back, I suppose the catalog number and the decoration number. The plate can be dated to the second half of the 20th century, good measurements and excellent ceramic biscuit, compact, very hard, very thick and heavy, considering that the object weighs almost 1.5 kg.

From our research we know that Cesare Ronchi boasts numerous auction results, especially for bronze sculptures, and the four highest results we found range from €400 to €1,400. Furthermore, several of his ceramics are preserved in various Italian museums, such as a large pot with a lid and two handles, in stoneware, decorated with abstract motifs in white, brown and yellow on a brown background, preserved at the M.I.S.A. - Museum of the State Institute of Art, in Faenza. We have not found many ceramics by the artist for sale as they are extremely rare to find, which makes this dish a particularly important object for art lovers and collectors.

Cesare Ronchi is an important Italian ceramist, sculptor and engraver born in 1936 in Imola (Bologna, Italy), died on 28 June 2024 in Castel Bolognese (Ravenna, Italy). After completing his studies (1959) at the Art Institute of Faenza, where he was a student of Angelo Biancini, he distinguished himself in the same year by winning prizes at the ceramic exhibitions in Vicenza and Lerici. In the years between 1960 and 1970 he defined one of the traits of his artistic personality with the execution of numerous ceramic sculptures with which he won several competitions. From 1972 he also began to take an interest in bronze and wood. He combined his artistic activity with that of a teacher in various Italian art institutes until he became the holder of the Chair of Plastic at the Art Institute for ceramics "G. Ballardini" in Faenza. Active in Castel Bolognese, in Via Guidi 18.
