Please note: This listing is being replaced by an updated kit, ebay listing # 236349782513. Please check that listing for new options and more information to consider. When the last kit here sells, this listing will end, but additional kits will be replenished for listing 236349782513.
This kit is new, and still being developed. Unlike some other kits I have made available, I do not yet have enough experience with this amplifier’s hum to know if additional parts should be added. This trial kit was created in response to customer’s request, and a buyer has reported having success with this kit. It provides a set of six capacitors to address capacitor failures in the Sunfire True Sub Junior and Super Junior subwoofers. New Panasonic FR low ESR or Nichicon low impedance capacitors are provided, as well as photos of their location. Desoldering and soldering is required for installation. The largest pair of 200v filter capacitors have not degraded nor failed in my limited experience with these amplifiers. These six smaller capacitors do predictably degrade, BUT there may be other causes for a hum than these components failing. For example, I have seen a number of L7912 12v regulators fail, but that is not as common as the failure of these capacitors.
Some of the replacement capacitors may be a bit larger than the originals (taller). Most have a higher voltage rating, which helps longevity, but I have used them and know that they fit.
The first photo shows the capacitors in this kit. Other photos show the boards where the original capacitors are located; another shows two of the original capacitors, where some corrosion is visible. (Those two had lost 99%-100% of their capacitance).
Troubleshooting Tip
If the hum has gotten severe enough, it can cause a few SMD resistors and power transistors to fail. I hope to develop a second version of this kit, which will include components that typically fail.
