For Old World Macs (pre-1999), BootX or quik may be required (instructions included).

System Requirements:

  • Minimum RAM: 192MB (512MB recommended for performance)
  • Hard Drive Space: 1GB free space recommended (Approx. 500MB used after installation)
  • DVD Drive Required – This release is too large for a CD

Booting & Installation Instructions:

  1. Insert the Ubuntu 14.04 Server DVD into your Mac’s DVD drive.
  2. Restart your Mac and hold down the "C" key to boot from the DVD.
  3. Follow the text-based installer to configure your system.

For Old World Macs, BootX may be required (instructions provided).

  1. Insert the Ubuntu 14.04 Desktop DVD into your Mac’s DVD drive.
  2. Restart your Mac and hold down the "C" key to boot from the DVD.
  3. Follow the graphical installer to set up your system.

Since Ubuntu 14.04 reached end-of-life in April 2019, official repositories have been moved.
To continue receiving package updates, you need to update your system’s sources list to point to the correct repositories.

Replace all instances of archive.ubuntu.com with old-releases.ubuntu.com in your software sources.
