A stunning, glazed and vitrified ceramic vase, entirely hand-modeled on a lathe, then glazed and decorated by hand. Made in the early 20th century, it is signed under the base with his initial "Z" and the place of production "Italy" by the renowned ceramist Ugo Zaccagnini. Note the quality of the full-bodied, thick blue glaze, which is gently applied to the vase without covering it entirely. Also noteworthy is the acid-treated glaze, which features some areas that are more worn than others, and finally, the transverse brown shading. A truly artistic vase, with a striking effect. Very heavy, with an extremely thick ceramic biscuit.
Useful information for the evaluation of the object:
In the last few photos, we've featured some of Ugo Zaccagnini's highest auction results, with high estimates of €3,000-4,000 for a single ceramic piece. These are starting prices, prices that could rise during the auction and to which a 25-30% buyer's premium should always be added. Furthermore, in our online searches, we've found several Zaccagnini pieces, including large ceramic vases and lamp bases, offered on 1stDibs for over €4,000, up to over €7,000 for large pairs of vases. These figures provide a general idea of the importance of this celebrated Italian sculptor. Finally, in our online searches, we found a ceramic bowl with a red glaze, very similar in artistic workmanship, smaller than our vase, 24 cm tall compared to ours (almost 30 cm), and six cm in volume is a considerable amount. It's listed on 1stDibs for €1,500, titled "Zaccagnini Italian Design Red Ceramic Circular Decorative Bowl, 1960s."
