The A. D. Baker Company which designed and developed the valve gear was also located in Swanton, with a series of patents issued from 1903 to 1912. Apparently, by the 1920s, full production of Baker valve gears had been shifted to Pilliod. Historical records indicate that the respecter company founders, Baker and Pilliod, were friends and perhaps partners in some business ventures. Abner Baker was listed as Vice-President of Pilliod Co., and his brother L.R. Baker was listed as Mechanical Engineer.
