Thanks for reading
Happy Defendering
Why does this not fit RHD models, the heater box on a Left hand drive model is placed on the opposite side to a Right hand drive models, the fan would turn the wrong way, so a left hand drive version is made where the motor turns the other way and more importantly the blades are the opposite way!
* To convert to Re-circulation
The main problem with the Defender is it draws cold outside air into the heater box, since most Defenders are diesels that do not get warm quickly, plus many fit wing top fancy air ducts just to push more cold air in!
Modern cars have a re-circulation function which draws air from inside the cabin so the heater just 'adds' more temperature to the air passing through the heater matrix. This results in a warmer interior.
We cannot offer a 'simple kit' to convert the Defender as there is no suitable existing hole in the bulkhead that can draw cabin air into the heater. Few will cut large holes in the bulkhead out misguided knowledge that it will weaken the bulkhead this is unfounded as all those internet mis-informers should remove their brake pedal and clutch pedal and fill in the large exposed holes!
Conversion:
You mount the fan on the 'wrong side' where the plastic duct meets the heater box. This will now draw air into the heater box the correct way for re-circulation to do this will require cutting lip off and drilling holes in heater box.
The exposed hole where the fan would normally sits now needs air from inside the Defender, this will require ducting, guards, cutting bulkhead, fixings etc.
No parts for this modification are supplied with this fan.
But now I have fitted re-circulation I cannot get fresh air into the cabin, OPEN VENT FLAPS and DRIVE!
