MAN ON A ROCK by Richard Hertz Signed 1st Edition 1946.

Excellent condition for its age! From the estate of a family friend who was a prominent local collector/dealer of art and manuscripts. Covered in mylar protector. Moderate wear to dust jacket. Minor wear to cover. Pages are excellent for their age. Vintage book dealer's pencil note on first page. Previous owner made various notes and marks in pencil and red pencil throughout the book. The notes are light, small, not on every page, and not intrusive. Still a very readable and collectible copy that shows well. Spine is secure. Please see pictures for details. Ships promptly and well packed. Thank you and enjoy!

Hertz was a professor at the University of Dubuque when this was published, which is only about an hour from me. I'm sure, according to the signature and inscription, this book was signed at some event the author held in Freeport in 1947. Interesting re-appraisal of culture and individual psyche in post WWII upheaval. Some good thoughts to go over, though I think some of his analysis suffers from issues with his core ideas being built on faulty assumptions about the world. Fascinating book in any regard.
