With the formal announcement of the permanent closing of the Detroit City Portal of the Sweet Home Mine,
the supply of facet grade material has dried up.
These faceted Rhodochrosite gems from the mine,
will just continue to go up in price as collectors desire them even more now.
This beautiful gem was cut from the Rhodochrosite that was recovered in the newer Detroit City Portal.
It is precision cut as you will see, some of the finest cut Sweet Home Rhodo I have seen.
This gem is eye clean, with a 10x loupe,
you will see a slight inclusion,
like may be seen in these close up photos.
Indoors it can look reddish pink, a more salmon coloring,
or even a more orangy color, depending on the lighting.
The photos show two different lighting types to help show the color shift.
In the sunlight this stone is so brilliant and dispersive.
Who knew that Rhodochrosite showed such great color dispersion!
