You are bidding on an EXCELLENT used example of a WW1 German Gewehr 98 "Crank Handle" Combination Bayonet / Close Combat Knife! It comes complete with the original scabbard!

Smaller hand-to-hand combat knifes started appearing in 1915, when troops realized that the standard bayonet was too long and heavy.  The close combat/trench knife came in the usual straight handle variant, as well as a rarer (and unusual) cranked handle variant.  This "cranked" design allowed it to be used as either a bayonet or combat knife.

Made of steel, this Prussian/German Combination Bayonet & Close Combat Knife is in SUPERB condition considering its age. Though not stamped, it was manufactured by DEMAG with cranked style handle. Retains MUCh of the original paint on both the handle and scabbard! The blade does show some marks, stains, and wear, but has never been sharpened! The leather and steel scabbard/frog is also original to this knife, and also features some marks and wear. Would make a SUPERB addition to any collection or display!
