Giant Noble Spinach Vegetable Garden Seed

Grow an abundant crop of large, tender green leaves with Giant Noble Spinach Seeds from Mai’s Family.

Giant Noble, botanically known as Spinacia oleracea, is a classic heirloom spinach variety valued for its exceptionally large, smooth, deep-green leaves. The thick yet tender leaves have a mild, traditional spinach flavor and may be enjoyed fresh or cooked.

This productive annual forms a broad, spreading rosette that may reach approximately 10–12 inches tall and up to 24–25 inches across under suitable growing conditions. Its smooth leaves are generally easier to wash and prepare than heavily crinkled spinach varieties.

Giant Noble performs best during the cool temperatures of spring and fall. Gardeners in mild-winter climates may also grow it as a winter vegetable.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

Direct sowing is generally recommended because spinach develops a sensitive root system.

  1. Select a garden location receiving full sun or partial shade.
  2. Sow outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked in early spring.
  3. Plant seeds approximately 1/4–1/2 inch deep.
  4. Keep the soil evenly moist during germination.
  5. Seeds commonly germinate within 7–21 days, depending on temperature and growing conditions.
  6. Thin seedlings approximately 2–4 inches apart for baby-leaf production.
  7. For larger mature plants, thin approximately 6–12 inches apart.
  8. Sow another crop during late summer for a fall harvest.

Spinach germinates and grows best in cool soil. Hot weather may reduce germination and cause established plants to produce flower stalks prematurely.

CONTAINER GROWING

Giant Noble Spinach may be grown in a wide container with adequate drainage.

Plants may be spaced more closely for baby-leaf harvesting. Provide additional growing space when allowing plants to reach their mature size.

Container soil can dry more quickly than garden soil, so check the moisture regularly.

HARVESTING

Harvest baby leaves when they reach a usable size.

For continued production, remove the larger outer leaves while allowing the smaller center leaves to continue growing. The entire plant may also be harvested by cutting it at or slightly above soil level.

Harvest promptly if plants begin producing tall flower stalks because spinach leaves may develop a stronger or more bitter flavor after bolting.
