An original antique title page from the volume of Gerard Mercator’s Atlas Sive Cosmographicae Meditationes de Fabrica Mundi dealing with Italy, Slavonia and Greece, published in Amsterdam between 1589 and 1623. The title is enclosed within a classical architectural framework topped by cherubs and an eagle with spread wings. The printed area measures approximately 190mm x 285mm with large margins beyond (the sheet size is approx. 280mm x 460mm), blank verso.

Condition report: The condition is excellent with overall toning, one or two unobtrusive age spots, and a closed tear of 1cm to the top edge of the sheet and another of 2.5cm to the bottom left corner of the sheet, both well away from the printed area. See photographs.


Authenticity: this is an authentic item, published at the date stated in the title and accompanying description. Where an exact date is not known, the item is dated as circa (c.), e.g. c.1650. This indicates that it may have been printed/published a few years either side of the specified year.
