A Belfast travel writer and his Scottish sidekick take a lighthearted ride up the 16,500-mile Pan-American Highway. Hill proves an amiable, witty guide as he jaunts north through desert, mountain and woodlands. That's not to say he and traveling companion Clifford Paterson don't encounter some bumps in the road. These include a fairly serious crash along a remote stretch of road near Cali, Colombia; endless red tape at a half-dozen Latin-American border crossings; and a ban on beer throughout Central America during Easter Week. . .
"Hill's breezy, humorous narrative contains just enough dollops of history and local culture to satisfy travel fans. An easy, entertaining read, perfect for plane rides and road trips." - Kirkus Reviews
About the Author:
Geoff Hill is the features editor of the News Letter in Belfast. He has either won or been shortlisted for a UK. Travel Writer of the Year award eight times. He is also a former Irish Travel Writer of the Year and a former Mexican Government European Travel Writer of the Year, although he's still trying to work out exactly what that means. He regularly writes about travel for the Daily Telegraph and the Independent on Sunday.
Very Entertaining & Interesting read!
Reviews
Witty, Intelligent, enjoyable … A well written story, full of humour and thoughtful wording. Almost makes me want to do the trip...except for the border crossing in central America. Thanks for taking the time to write this. Hope there is a sequel.
Super funny book!! …. pleasant and funny reading of the story of two British bikers in South America! Geoff Hill has a great way to tale fun & awkward situations. Great book really !
A writer’s ride adventure .. .. This is not your average guy on a bike writing about his trip, Geoff Hill is a writer and a good one, so put that with a bike and the combination should add up. It does. If you like travelogues and particularly bike adventures this should be a good read for you. There is plenty of background given about the lives of the riders, so it’s not an A to B account about waking, eating, getting fuel and riding. There’s a fair bit of unplanned adventure, a hairy spill, and Geoff's companion in adventure is an Irish, ex. IoM racer, with a sense of humour to equal the balls you need to ride the Island as only the Irish can.
Funny funny book … This story was funny and light hearted. It was definitely a book that makes you want to go out there and try new things!!!
Wish I could have been on this ride with Geoff Hill … Funny, well written and intriguing. You need not ride motorcycles to enjoy the ride. I love this guy.
Entertaining … If you are someone that makes vague plans to head off in a general direction and typically has an accident or illness along the way, then this is will be a great read to hear it happening to someone else.
Easy to read style and makes one think that the organised trips of this nature by the likes of Edelweisse or Globebusters might take some of the stress of the trip out of such an adventure. I am not associated with either company by the way, but I love their stories.
Marvellous Reading!
